The next generation of training for Australia's residential building industry is being developed, and you have the opportunity to help shape it.
The Clean Economy Skills Lab for Residential Building and Construction, funded by the Victorian Skills Authority, is piloting a new industry training program designed to equip building professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver high-performance, low-impact homes.
The course has been co-designed by the Sustainable Builders Alliance alongside Melbourne Polytechnic, Holmesglen Institute, Chisholm Institute and TAFE Gippsland, bringing together expertise from both industry and education to ensure the content is practical, relevant and aligned with the evolving needs of the residential construction sector.
We're now seeking 6–10 industry professionals to participate in each pilot and provide valuable feedback that will help refine the program before it's rolled out more broadly.
Who Should Apply?
We're looking for professionals involved in the delivery of residential homes, including:
- Builders
- Designers and Architects
- Project Managers
- Developers
- Building surveyors
- Other professionals involved in residential construction
Whether you're already delivering sustainable high performance homes or looking to build your knowledge, your insights will help create training that better supports the industry into the future.
What You'll Learn
The pilot introduces key sustainable design principles and explores how they can be applied throughout the residential building process.
Participants will gain practical knowledge through a combination of self-paced learning, live discussion with educators and industry experts, and a real-world site visit to experience these principles in action.
What's Involved?
The pilot requires approximately six hours of participation over one week and includes:
- Pre-reading and online learning activities, including a short quiz.
- A live online workshop (up to two hours) with educators and industry experts.
- An exclusive site visit to a high-performance sustainable home
- A short feedback survey following the pilot.
This feedback will play an important role in refining the course before it's introduced more widely across Victoria.
